When visiting with someone dear I could not help but notice that
they had a great deal of items left behind by a loved one. At first I
didn't think much of it, but in thinking about that visit it was another
illustration on how the Most High is with us every step of the way. My thought was why do they have all this
stuff still??? The items were not being used and were just holding up space
because they could not let go. Then I thought of how they always seem
drained, detached, dismayed or at times unable to enjoy peace. Then Abba says “Really, so how are you any
different? “ Do you still have residual things physically, spiritually or both
that you have not let go of”??? Yes…. I
do!!! Reality check, huh Abba!!!! Yes
daughter, check!!!!
In that moment I was given
an opportunity so I could grow and move there by. IF we are being
intentional about growing in our relationship with the Most High this should be
done so daily. Be honest simply ask
yourself, is this still where I am at???
If answering YES…..then you can understand that feeling too!!!! There was a time I was very serious about hanging
on to various items because they had “sentimental value”. I was connected
to these things despite them having no sustenance and they were really just trinkets
of memories. Never did I think of them as idols, but from this visit I
was able to look at myself and see that I was in a similar spot.
Even the smallest things can become something we never intended
as a stumbling block and a gate way. Too
much of anything can become a source of worship. Who me???
Yes, if you owe nothing on your “favorite things” but choose to put yourself
into debt holding on “just in case” well that sounds like worship!!! There is a stark difference in what we want
and what we need. A need is a provision that the Most High has set up for us here
as we walk, but hoarding is just the opposite and it is not pleasing to the
Most High. Why…….it’s GREED which can lead
to GLUTTONY!!!! Yep the “BIG G’s ” !!! These are spirits that we know are not of
the Most High, that are contrary to the commandments. So in doing so we are setting ourselves up to
be pulled out of order. How you may ask?? By our refusing to let go even if it is that
old music collection. How did this work
out for our elders and this is still so until this very day!!!! For this very
reason we are to be diligent and move as we are instructed to throughout scripture
particularly when meditating on this topic.
In Exodus 20:3-6 Abba makes it clear what is required of us!!!!
He says… “ Thou shalt have no other gods before me.4 Thou shalt not make unto
thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or
that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down
thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Most
High thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;6 And shewing mercy unto thousands
of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
Did our ancestors make idols out of things and of people??? Yes….So
much so that we have been cast away from the Most High because of this
disobedience!!!!! Does that mean that a
watch that was passed down to you or those bronze baby shoes you have from your
little one is idol?? Only you can decide
that, but you need to consider this in honesty. Take time out and look around at what you have
accumulated. Decide is it a need or a want??? What is your attachment to
it, who gave it to you and where were you when you got it??? Is it sitting on a mantle with candles
burning around it??? Can it draw spirits to you….an old ornament perhaps from
grandma from “their “Holidays”??? Does
it secretly keep your mind and heart tied to that memory??? Could you lose it and think nothing else of
it???? If so it's an idol and IF you
are to be in the Father's order you know what you have to do. The
question is will you or will you have the choice made for you!!!!!
